If you wonder where the Beatles bought their instruments during their time in Hamburg – it was here, at “Musik Rotthoff”, the only shop in town that sold American guitars back in the day. In 1961, the owner of the “Top Ten” had to vouch for the band, who had to pay for their instruments in instalments. “Musik Rotthoff” at Neuer Pferdemarkt is still quite an institution among Hamburg musicians. Just like in the sixties, musical instruments fill the shop from floor to ceiling, primarily guitars and bass guitars. And just like then, there is something for every budget, from cheap guitars for beginners to high-end devices for thousands of euros. Maik Rotthoff runs the family business in its fourth generation, and like his predecessor, the trained instrument maker also offers repairs and adjustments.
