GROSSE FREIHEIT 36
For most regulars of “Grosse Freiheit 36”, this location is so legendary due to the concerts that they have heard here – since 1985, countless national and international rock stars have performed in this venue, including Neil Young, Doro Pesch, Björk, Nick Cave and Deep Purple. Before WWII, the “Hippodrome”, which can be seen in the Hans Albers film “Große Freiheit No. 7”, resided here, an entertainment venue with a round arena featuring a horse show. In 1944, a year after filming, the building was destroyed. After the post-war reconstruction of the building, the famous strip club “Colibiri” opened at 36 Grosse Freiheit, which in the mid-eighties was converted into a music club – quite fitting for a location that was located directly above the legendary “Kaiserkeller” in which the Beatles had played and which in the course of the opening of “Grosse Freiheit 36” was also reopened.
